Escape to tranquility

Escape to absolute tranquility at the Elandskloof Trout Farm near Dullstroom. Beautiful seclusion far away from the hustle and bustle of city living, Elandskloof makes for good memories around the fire place, starry skies, green fields and amazing sunsets.

Nestled in the valley and meandering through and around a cluster of massive trees near Dullstroom, lies the Elandskloof  Trout Farm.

The oldest farm in Mpumalanga, Elandskloof was established in the 60’s when the owner and his wife took an interest in fly fishing and the breeding of trout. The owner built the first dam in the area in 1952, stocked it with trout from the Lydenburg state hatchery and allowed friends over to fish.

After realising what a mess his friends were making, the owner started charging them 5c for a day’s fishing and slowly started expanding.  In 1960 he built the biggest private dam in the Transvaal and soon after another three followed. What started off really small has become a big, well-known trout farm and choice break-away destination.

Peace and quiet does not get better than this.  Watch reflections of beautiful sunsets on the still dams surrounding the resort and enjoy endless romantic nights or just a good book by the fireplace at night or even under starlit skies.

A natural spring feeding Elandskloof’s heated swimming pool makes for year-round enjoyment.  The resort also boasts a jacuzzi and large restaurant with ample space to host both corporate and private functions.  A working farm sees to hours of wholesome entertainment for children as they learn about stock handling and help with the feeding of the farm animals.  In addition, vintage farm equipment provides loads of imaginative play.

Elandskloof’s own hatchery regularly stocks its 11 dams varying in size up to eight hectares.  Although catch and release fly fishing is promoted, a bag limit of two fish per angler is permitted at this perfect destination for the avid fisherman.

Search for the elusive otter along the river banks, take a walk and find rare ground orchids in the grasslands or scarce amphibians in the wetlands.  Experience the splendour of the Dullstroom highlands at 2 000 ft above sea level on your mountain bike, or just take a walk along one of the beautiful trails.

With 800 head of game, a special wedding venue and a great camp site with power points and sparkling clean ablution facilities, Elandskloof is a hidden gem waiting to be explored by the adventure-lover who, at the same time, yearns for tranquility away from the bustle of everyday life.

For those who are not fans of camping, Elandskloof has various self-catering options.  The cottages and chalets within the main resort accommodate between two and six people respectively, each with its own special features.
For a larger group, however, the farm house is perfectly suited as it accommodates 11 people.

In the mood for something a lot more private and secluded?  Then one of the four units situated 2 km away from the resort, are perfect for you.  The Whiskey, Nymph, Vintage and Matuka units sleep between five and ten people and have no electricity.

The units are fitted with gas geysers, fridges and stoves and at night, paraffin lamps and candles light your way.

Elandskloof invites you to share in the unparalleled views, aesthetic beauty and pristine grasslands, old trees, streams and dams which epitomise the resort.
